On Friday, I shared three good things from this past month. However, there was one very good thing from the month I absolutely should have mentioned. Over the last couple weeks, I have been talking with my parents, who have been sharing their memories with me.
Among those memories was how they met when my dad was in the Air Force in the early 1960s and my mom was a senior in high school. The short version is my mother’s aunt, only a year older than my mom, and her soon-to-be-husband, my dad’s roommate at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro, N.C. set them up. In fact my parents’ first date was right after my aunt Peggy and uncle Johnny’s wedding on June 17, 1962.
My mom and dad said they went to a movie at a drive-in and while they remember other movies they saw over the years, curiously they don’t remember their first. I joked with them that must have been because they were making out the whole time. Naturally, they hemmed and hawed about it, and I ha-ed too.
